Jill Sobule
This is such a great idea. I hope everyone who's ever heard of her or wants to support fantastic musicians to do their own thing gets involved, however little they can afford. I'm definitely going to...
Have a listen to Bitter (a song she wrote after Jewel hit the stratosphere and Jill didn't - despite the hype being the other way around in those pre-Lilith Fair days) if you need convincing.
"Bitter was going to be the big single off my 3rd CD, Happy Town, but the label was worried that it had the word "bitch" in it (and this was way before the FCC got out of hand). They wanted me to replace "bitch" with something that Wal-Mart would be okay with. I went back in the studio and replaced the offending word with... "c*nt."
"I thought it was funny. They didn’t."
A stunning hour and a half concert by Jill can be downloaded for free at;

She's smart, witty and calls the powers that be out on their bull.

A funny story about "Bitter" from Jill herself;
